Liverpool Interview *28.04.08* |
 |
There's an interview with Glenn (promoting his Liverpool gig coning up
in June) in the Liverpool Daily Post online. He mentions the 1976 Deep Purple finale in Liverpool (among other things) thus:
“It imploded on that night through an accumulation of literally too much
sex, drugs and rock ’n’ roll,” he recalls before exclaiming: “The things
we did on that tour! We played five gigs in six days, and I never slept once because of the
stuff that I was taking. I knew things were not right on stage in
Glasgow when I started to see things that weren’t there! “And, to be honest, by the time we got to Liverpool, there’s very little
I can remember about what happened.”

Medusa Rising *updated 20.02.08* |
 |
Universal have licensed the Trapeze / Medusa album out. This will replace that utterly dreadful version which came out on Lemon a few years ago, and be mastered from actual album tapes. Simon is helping out with archive bits and pieces for it and we'll have more news soon. If anyone has any good material on this early period of the band - adverts, photographs etc. do get in touch and we'll pass your info on. (Thank you for all the submissions received so far!)
Simon adds: Lemon didn't actually get around to issuing this title, they only ballsed up Trapeze and You Are The Music!

Vox Humana *6.01.08* |

Deleted for some time, the Geoffrey Downes album Vox Humana from 1995 has just been reissued. It is of interest because Glenn Hughes guests on just one track, an excellent reinterpretation of Downes' Buggles hit Video Killed The Radio Star. It sounds a naff idea, but it's really very good (and much better than the original). dpas

The new Glenn Hughes compilation titled - This Time Around / Anthology 1970 / 2007 is due out at the end of August. It can be pre-ordered at dpas mail order. We've just seen an advance copy and as well as coming in a smart slipcase, a detailed booklet with notes from Glenn, it now includes two previously unissued tracks as well. Justine, a demo, and This Time Around recorded live in Kiev in 2007.

sounds on the album (with acoustic guitar and strings in some
places). Nice looking sleeve too (about which view Glenn doubtless

participation in the Ozzfest this summer, he and Glenn have delayed
the live tour until the end of 2005. Dates to follow. Iommi has
been talking about the new album on his

in full. We've heard that the CD has a bonus track only in Japan,
LET IT DOWN EASY. You might like to e-mail the Iommi site and
tell them what we all think of this idea! (Thanks to Tim Summers).
There will be a download only bonus track from the Fused session
available from iTunes on the day the CD comes out.
"I definitely knew that for my next album I wasn't going to use
a lot special guests again. I wanted to use just one singer, and
I also wanted it to be more like a band this time. The idea was
to go into the studio and play everything live. It was great.
I really enjoyed doing it that way. By playing live in the studio,
you can hear exactly how the songs are going to sound and whether
they work." The CD can be pre-ordered at dpas

CD & DVD, First Reactions *updated
13.02.05* |
 |
Some people
have questioned the picture quality on the new Glenn Hughes DVD.
In fact this is not a fault, but the result of computer video
effects - high contrast filters, dropping frames to give slow-motion
feel, etc. Do not adjust your set! But do wonder at the production
company for doing it...On
the up side the audio CD sounds excellent, bit short though -
just over 40 mins per disc (+ 2 studio tracks, one of which is
a bonus track from the Japanese edition of 'Songs In The Key Of
Rock'), and many of the tracks done on the UK tour are missing
so it ends up a bit Purple heavy. Very powerful Medusa
and a rockin' Gettin Tighter. The Chillis drummer makes a big
difference. Full review in DTB 57.

and DVD are available from the dpas
online store. SR #9001813 |
