Glenn Hughes • Music For The Divine

"Wow! This one packs a punch. Cannot wait to hear some of this on stage. Fans will love the way he brings some of the old Trapeze funk and vocal harmonies back into the mix, and it gets really steamy at times. There's plenty of the heavy edge which has marked his recent albums but it's pushed and blended with a more sophisticated structure here.

There's also a lot more interest and variety, and fans of the more balladic Hughes will dig that side of this album (we even get strings and acoustic guitars in a couple of places). You get the feeling that he's been very happy working with the people on the CD and it's given him more confidence to go for it rather than try to second-guess what fans wanted. The result is a very individual album. Metal fans will find Steppin' On and Monkey Man alone worth the price of admission, and can explore the rest. Nice booklet too (though dock house points for promising us a review copy and not sending it!).
