"Battle in De Oude Rai"

These pictures were taken at the infamous Amsterdam show on 28th January 1973, when Deep Purple's show ended in a riot. Due to a number of problems throughout the evening (including security not allowing the group into the building, and electricity having to be 'borrowed' from a next door hotel) the band were over an hour late on stage, then curtailed their set after an hour and made their escape. That lead to missiles being hurled on stage, and then a riot during which the band's equipment was wrecked.

There is a full account of the show in Tonny Steenhagen's article on Deep Purple in Holland (Darker Than Blue magazine nr.54)
